OUR PARTNERS
FROM THE KITCHEN TO THE WORLD

The legacy of Floyd D. Young, Jr. lives on in our vision to better prepare the next generation.

Floyd and Norma Young were two remarkable individuals whose lives were defined by dedication, service, and a commitment to uplifting others. Floyd David Young, Jr., born in Saint Augustine, Texas, in 1938, and Norma Rose Young, born in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1935, both grew up with strong values and a deep sense of community.

Their paths crossed in Indianapolis, where they met and married in 1961, setting the foundation for a lifelong partnership grounded in love, faith, and service.

Together, they co-founded FDY, Inc., a pioneering food service company that became known for providing quality food service programs at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and other major institutions.

Under their leadership, FDY, Inc. not only achieved business success but also made significant contributions to education, establishing scholarship funds at each HBCU they served. Floyd’s vision of enhancing food service quality and Norma’s compassionate leadership ensured that their company was a cornerstone of both the business and educational communities.

Beyond their professional achievements, Floyd and Norma were deeply involved in their community. They were active members of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, and were recognized for their extraordinary service to the state of North Carolina with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine.

Their legacy of philanthropy and community involvement continues to inspire, and their memory lives on through the work of The Floyd & Norma Young Foundation to further support education and community stability.

OUR VISION

To fulfill the wishes of Floyd and Norma Young by ensuring that students interested in and/ or enrolled in a Historically Black College and University (HBCU) have access to scholarships and financial assistance.

Beyond academic support, the foundation strives to remain a cornerstone of the community, actively addressing issues of life stability and food insecurity for people of color, thereby fostering a nurturing environment for educational success.

OUR MISSION
